American Forces Targeted a 'Major Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Claimed Without Offering Specifics.

Ex-President Trump has asserted that US military assets struck a "large installation" in Venezuela in recent days. However, the former president withheld information about the precise nature or site of the target, and officials have issued no further clarification from his camp.

Unspecific Comments Offered In a Radio Interview

"US forces just destroyed – I don't know if you read – they have a major complex, where the vessels depart from. Two nights ago, we destroyed it. So we struck them very hard," Trump allegedly said to Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Potential Significance of a Confirmed Attack

If a US strike were to be confirmed, it would constitute the initial ground target hit since the US Department of Defense began a buildup of US military presence in the region to interdict narco-trafficking operations that the former administration asserts operate under the direction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The initial purpose of the military buildup has since morphed into a quarantine aimed at hindering the nation's crude oil shipments.

Social Media Video and Administration Claims

Trump has for some time warned that American military units are poised to escalate the operations by hitting objectives inside Venezuela, a strategy that would in theory require congressional approval.

Video footage circulated on social media on 24 December purportedly showed an explosion allegedly from an industrial area in a Venezuelan state. Yet, the video or the facility has not been confirmed by third parties.

An official from Trump's team reportedly informed a news network that the president was referring to a drug facility in his remarks.

Response and Ongoing Military Posture

The Caracas administration has not commented on the alleged strike Trump referenced. Furthermore, there have been no corroborating news from Venezuela concerning it.

The deployment of American forces in the area – a position some have called a naval quarantine – constitutes the largest maritime enforcement action of his time in office.

Administration officials have stopped short from describing the operation as a full blockade, but have acknowledged that around 15,000 service members are stationed across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a aircraft carrier group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to enforce current sanctions.
