A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from spring of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He defended 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
