The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
